1994 - 99
Back from the States, I went to the University of Central Lancashire to pick up a post graduate diploma in journalism before departing on an extended tour of England's provincial newspapers.
I did some reporting for the Hull Daily Mail, before moving into the bright new world of computer-generated editorial graphics for the Lancashire Evening Post and the Southern Daily Echo.
For a moment, it looked as if I was destined for steady job as an art, design, or, graphics editor. But, I managed to turn freelance instead and picked up shifts on the national graphics desks of the Daily Express, the Guardian and The Sun.
However, I was also picking up cartooning work on these papers and with other publications. I started drawing for Tribune in 1999 and won the Young Cartoonist of the Year award in 2000.
